Product Description
The Royal Mint is commemorating the ten heraldic beasts that line the Moat Bridge of Hampton Court Palace. Created at the behest of Henry VIII, the beasts symbolise the legitimacy of the king’s rule by portraying his regal ancestry. The ten are evenly split, with five belonging to the king and five representing his third wife, Jane Seymour. The coins in the collection honour each of the ten beasts that symbolise the mighty Tudor dynasty.
The reverse of the coin features the Seymour Panther, which celebrates the union between Henry VIII and Jane Seymour and was donated to Jane by the King himself from the Royal Treasury of Beasts. The Panther, known for his toxic breath, is depicted with flames coming out of his mouth and ears. All around, the inscriptions: “SEYMOUR PANTHER” – the name of the coin and “2022” – the year of emission. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with all around the inscriptions: “2 POUNDS” – the face value, “ELIZABETH II” – the name of the Queen and “D·G·REG·F·D” – the Latin acronym that stands for: Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensor.
